About Us

Founded in 1893, Shotley & Benfieldside Tennis Club is situated 2 miles from Consett in Co. Durham between the two communities of Shotley Bridge & Consett. We are a friendly Club with active membership of all ages and abilities from Mini/Junior to Veteran. We have 6 artificial grass courts, including 1 floodlit indoor court and 3 external floodlit courts. New members are always welcome, and we can offer Pay & Play options too, so please contact us at any time to try out our facilities.

The Club enters teams in local and national Junior, Senior and Veteran Leagues as well as running a healthy social tennis scene. The thriving coaching programme offers Mini, Junior and Adult sessions through the week for everyone from new starters through to established and performance players.

The Clubhouse and bar facilities were fully refurbished in 2016 and are the hub of a thriving social activity alongside the tennis. They are available for private hire too. The Clubhouse is fully equipped with changing rooms with showers, disabled access, toilet and changing facilities, a baby-change station, TV, comfortable seating, central heating and kitchen facilities.

The Club is affiliated to the Lawn Tennis Association and was the first in the North East to gain Tennis Clubmark status and then Tennismark accreditation. Members can enter the ballot for Wimbledon tickets every year. We are also an LTA-registered Place to Play, part of a national strategy to promote participation in tennis, and a lead partner in the new LTA Rallies initiative.

With a warm welcome extended to all, there is something to appeal to players of all ages and standards whether through a formal coaching scheme, social play or competitive opportunities by way of organised tournaments or participation in Inter-club League Matches.
